Anxiety Counseling
Everyone experiences worry and anxiety at certain points in his or her life. Anxiety is a survival mechanism that occurs naturally throughout stressful times in our lives; however, frequent or constant feelings of anxiety, stress, or panic during your day-to-day activities could be a sign that you may be struggling with and anxiety disorder.
If you struggle with regular racing thoughts, excessive worry and overthinking, difficulty sleeping, or difficulty feeling safe and relaxed, you may benefit from working with a counselor to address the cause of your anxiety and develop new skills to better manage it. Counseling can provide help you understand what triggers your anxious thoughts, help you identify and change negative thoughts patterns, and practice new coping skills to help reduce and manage feelings of anxiety when they occur.
Anxiety disorders can cause a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms that can vary widely from person to person. Some additional symptoms that can occur as a result of an untreated anxiety disorder include:
- Restlessness
- Mentally playing out worst case scenarios
- Feelings of impending doom or danger
- Sweaty or tingly hands
- Shortness of breath
- Heart palpitations
- Dizziness
- Overeating or loss of appetite
- Tensed muscles
